I’m excited to start working with you! Whether you are just exploring the idea of starting a small business or if you already are a mompreneur, I can help you.
Who does Small Business Mom work with?
I mainly work with moms just like you. Perhaps you feel disillusioned with the direction your career is going? Maybe you are resentful that your job takes so much time away from your children? Are you a stay at home mom who now wants or needs to return to work? Many moms require more flexibility than traditional employment provides. Furthermore, you might want to pursue a passion or create a legacy for your family. Whether you are returning to work after staying at home or are transitioning from someone’s employment, I can help you.
Case example: Maya has spent the last 7 years at home with her twins. They are now second graders and she feels a bit restless. Plus, her wife has been hinting she would like to reduce her workload. Maya was a teacher pre-kid but can’t see herself going back to the classroom. It would not afford the flexibility she needs if one of her one kids gets sick (Maya’s wife is a litigator and really can’t take off easily). Plus, honestly, she does not want to spend her day with kids and then come home to her own.
Maya’s friends are always asking her to help them get organized. She has a knack for knowing how to find a place for everything. In fact, she automatically thinks of ways of organizing when she enters someone else’s space. What if…
What is the Small Business Mom approach?
Listening, defining, curating, implementing, and providing community.©
Listening
I listen first. My 20 years experience as a nurse has honed my listening skills. Everyone in my life says I’m excellent at it. What is your story? What drives you? What are your obstacles? I use my skills as a therapist to help you clarify your goals and values. We then align your business model with them. I do not prescribe a one size fits all model. Obviously, we all need to earn money but maybe your motivation is creating more free time?
Case example continued: Maya discusses her thoughts with her wife. They agree she should explore the idea of starting an organization business. Maya reaches out and we have our first appointment. We discuss why this interests her, how she envisions spending her days and how much money she needs to make. We also explore her strengths, perceived obstacles, resources, etc. Most importantly, we explore why she thinks having her own business is the best way to go at this point in her life.
Defining
You may have already worked through all of this. Great! We start honing down on how to get your business started. I do everything from helping you plan the best way to launch and scale your business to making detailed “to-do” lists.
Maya decides she wants to move forward. We meet and start working through the details of what’s involved in starting her business.
Curating
We are in an age of information overload. Let me take that off your plate and give you tools specific to your journey. I read business and self help books for fun. There is always a business related podcast on my phone. You can check out the Resources page for some of my top pics.
Implementing
Most moms don’t struggle with ideas or motivation. Instead, it is finding space and time to do the work. Together, we will make a practical plan to implement your dream small business. We will move at your speed. You will never feel pressured. I strive to validate your experience in the world.
Community
Lastly, women thrive in community. Being a mompreneur can be quite lonely. Small Business Mom plans on growing a network of like minded women entrepreneurs. We will actually be launching a virtual group program in the near future (approximate date September 2023). Other events on the horizon are in-person seminars, happy hours, and maybe even a retreat!
